Medical/Anniversary Update!

Because it's our anniversary - here is a picture of our first dance.

Alrighty, here is the news that you have been waiting for!

Lots has been going on in our house. We have been catching up on all of our doctor and dentist appointments.
Sans went first. He is the picture of health, other than his slightly elevated cholesterol counts.

I went in for a CT scan. Yuck.

Then we both had dentist appointments. I have two more cavities. I got one filled, she said that the other one is so shallow that it's not worth worrying about right now. Remember, these are the only three cavities that I have ever had. But, my teeth look icky (I haven't been able to go to the dentist since 2002 – before the last round of chemo), so I am pretty lucky that they aren't that bad. Sans, on the other hand, poor guy has to have a bunch of work done. We were expecting this. What we didn't expect was how freaking awesome our insurance is. Sans has to get almost $13,000 worth of work done, and we only have to pay around $600. Amazing! So, slowly we will get all that work done for him, and soon he will again feel good about showing me his beautiful smile! We both go in next week for our cleanings.

Then Sans had an eye doctor appointment. I didn't make one for myself, because I had one last year and my vision hadn't changed since 2003. Sans has felt that his vision was getting bad, blurred, double vision, stuff like that. So, he had some tests. He does not need glasses. They thought he may have glaucoma, or some kind of convergence issue, I'm not sure. They told him that they needed to have him come in for eye therapy. They'll do some exercises, and that starts tomorrow. Today, they tested him for glaucoma and did all kinds of other weird tests (they numbed his eyeballs and poked him with some plastic stick!) He's fine. And he just needs the eye therapy.

I had my physical. Got a new doctor. I went in and had a huge list of concerns. New doc was Great! Very proactive and took all my questions without batting an eye. And she covered them. She did my normal girlie tests, sent me in for some blood tests – normal ones for the diabetics (My A1C is currently at 9.9, which is much better than it was), cholesterol (high, but workable), and my hormones. She also scheduled me for a bone density test (next month) – since I lost two inches since chemo – and a mammogram (totally normal). She also has me scheduled to see an endocrinologist in November because of the diabetes issues. She updated my prescriptions and addressed some of my weird issues. There was protein in my urine, so she put me on an Ace inhibitor. And I was told to go to the eye doctor.

I got a call on Saturday from the nurse (really sweet girl – she says Golly Gee a lot). She said my test results came back. My cholesterol was up, so I am now on Lipitor. My female hormones were at the high end of normal, so I was referred to a fertility specialist. I didn't know what high end of normal was, but I found out today. We went in to see her – she was VERY nice. She threw everything out on the table for us. Turns out when the blood tests were done, I was ovulating (I know, TMI), which is a really really good thing. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which can highly attribute to infertility, and really explains a lot of issues that I have had since I was a teenager. She is sending me in for another blood test when I am at a different point in my cycle, so we can go from there – see if a leaning toward early menopause or not. And we have decided to go from there. We are going to wait a little bit (at least until my blood sugar and cholesterol smooth out). So, to smooth out the PCOS effects, she is going to put me on the pill for a while to also keep me from accidentally getting pregnant. It sounds like there is hope! I am so happy with this, and I think Sans is, too.

This afternoon, Sans and I made the trek out to Vancouver to go see my oncologist for my CT results. Everything is absolutely fine. The doctor said that I should be more worried about my diabetes than the Cancer coming back. He said that he will see me in a year, and then after that, I don't have to come back for another two years. What a relief! I couldn't stop smiling after that.

On Monday, Sans and I will have made it for a complete year as a married couple. I can't believe that it's been that long. We are still happy, I am still looking for a job. :-) But really, we are doing really well, and we are happy together.

All this medical stuff in the past couple of weeks has made us a little crazy, but it's such a relief to have most of it done and taken care of, so we know where we stand, and know what needs to be taken care of. We have our health plan laid out – I have already been working on our menu (and trying to be as green as possible with it), and I have been walking at night. We are thinking about doing a couch to 5K kind of thing – possibly with running, but right now, I am thinking of just walking it. I am not a good runner – I fall. But Sans said he would teach me.
So, please wish us luck!

It seems I have readers from all over the place – please say hi, I'd love to know who my lurkers are! Hope all is well with everyone.
